"I was excited when RJ Spangler and the Planet D invited me to join them for their Monk concert at the Scarab Club in Detroit, on October 1, 2017, the day before my 76th birthday. They had all the Monk works that we featured in their band book and had learned them through rehearsal, so our preparation consisted of matching the songs in their book with poems I had available from the book of Monk. Then we had a mutual rehearsal, and everything was groovy – as you can hear on these recordings.
I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, aside from a few little flubs of my own. In my little world of poetry, this is as good as it gets!"
